    • 100% of the art featured on every Native Northwest product is designed by Indigenous artists

    • All artists have provided consent and contractual permission for their art to be featured on Native Northwest products

    • Artist names are acknowledged on all product packaging

    • Cultural traditions are honoured by acknowledging cultural affiliation on product packaging

    • Artists are paid in fees and royalties

  • Chief Kwakwee Baker (Xusamda'as Tsamkwa'gatl) is an internationally recognized contemporary Multi-Media Designer with a rich ancestry, hailing from the Squamish, Musgamagw Dzawada'Nuik, Namgis, Kwaguilth, Tlingit/Haida, and Celtic nations. Born in Morocco, Africa, in 1972, he currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Rooted in the Potlatch Traditions and ceremonies of his family, Baker's art is a synthesis of his diverse heritage and world experiences. He works in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, graphic design, film production, and traditional performance. His artistic style is noted for its visionary, dream-like impressions, which often push the boundaries of traditional Northwest Coast design with contemporary elements and a focus on social justice, history, and legends.

Kwakwee Baker is largely self-taught, but benefited from mentoring by extended family, including his uncle, master carver Tony Hunt. He is an alumnus of the Native Education College Jewellery Arts Program and has had his work featured in international exhibitions, commissioned for multiple murals, and displayed at institutions like the American Museum of Natural History.
