Don Chase was an Ojibway artist born in Port Hope, Ontario, in 1938 to Ojibway parents. His Indigenous heritage significantly influenced his unique artistic style, which often featured "explosive fluorescent colours." He passed away on March 22, 2025.

Chase pursued his artistic education at the Ontario College of Art. He spent his professional life working as a graphic artist. Outside of his graphic art career and coaching hockey, he dedicated his free time to exploring various media in both painting and sculpture. His artistic talent led him to display his works across Canada in numerous art shows and exhibits, including the esteemed McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Don Chase received several accolades throughout his career, notably the Mayor's Choice award at the 43rd juried art exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa in 2011.

Chase aimed to create a "spiritual connection" with those viewing his art, explaining, "I try to create a spiritual connection with the person viewing my work. It's not necessarily a religious thing, but I want to interpret my inner most emotions that live inside all of us. I'm compelled to express how I feel and present it in a bold manner. I think that makes for interesting art work…"
