  • NATIVE NORTHWEST ART BY INDIGENOUS ARTISTS

    Statement of Respect and Authenticity

We believe that Indigenous artists should be treated fairly and with respect. Authenticity of art, design, and culture is the foundation of our mission of building everyday connection to Indigenous cultures.

Native Northwest products are guided by the following five principles:

    • 100% of the art featured on every Native Northwest product is designed by Indigenous artists

    • All artists have provided consent and contractual permission for their art to be featured on Native Northwest products

    • Artist names are acknowledged on all product packaging

    • Cultural traditions are honoured by acknowledging cultural affiliation on product packaging

    • Artists are paid in fees and royalties

  • Mervin Windsor is a Haisla artist from the Kitamaat Village in British Columbia, Canada. He's a carver and jeweller who's known for his work in the Kwakwaka’wakw style, a form of Northwest Coast art. Windsor's artistic journey began early, inspired by his family, including his grandfather, who was a prominent carver.

His work often features traditional Haisla and Kwakwaka’wakw designs, such as the raven and the eagle. He creates pieces using a variety of materials, including wood, silver, and gold. Windsor's art is a testament to his deep connection to his heritage, and it's celebrated for its intricate details and traditional symbolism. He has also been involved in cultural revitalization efforts, sharing his knowledge with younger generations of artists in his community.
