Pat Bruderer, also known as Halfmoon, is one of the few remaining practitioners of the ancient art of birch bark biting. A member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, she has dedicated her life to preserving this rare technical skill, which involves folding thin layers of bark and using the teeth to create intricate, symmetrical patterns. Pat’s work is a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of her ancestors. Through her workshops and finely crafted pieces, she ensures that this vital cultural tradition is carried forward, honouring the beauty and complexity of Cree heritage.
