Maynard Johnny Jr. was born in Campbell River, BC, and carries a rich heritage from both the Coast Salish and Kwakwaka'wakw Nations. Primarily self-taught, his work is a contemporary evolution of traditional formline, known for its bold use of bright colours and sleek, modern aesthetic. Maynard’s designs often feature iconic coastal figures like the Raven and the Eagle, rendered with a sense of movement and vitality. Through his art, he seeks to honour his ancestors while making Indigenous design accessible to a modern audience, bridging the traditions of his past with the energy of the present.
