Maxine Noel, also known by her Sioux name Ioyan Mani (To Walk Beyond), is a celebrated Santee Oglala Sioux artist born on the Birdtail Reserve in Manitoba. Her work is characterized by a distinctive, fluid style that utilizes graceful lines and a delicate palette to explore themes of femininity, family, and the resilience of Mother Earth. A founding member of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, Maxine uses her art as a bridge for communication and understanding between cultures. Her elegant compositions are recognized internationally for their spiritual depth and serene celebration of Indigenous womanhood.
