Supporting Indigenous Art

From Otavalo to Ottawa
In 1994, Jacinto and Jill Anguaya began a small-scale import business to support their family and the community of Indigenous artisans in Otavalo, Ecuador. Their mandate was simple: handmade, unique, fair trade, and fairly priced. Thirty years later, Quichua World Market remains a cornerstone of the ByWard Market, still guided by those same original values.
Meet our world-famous alpaca plushies. Hand-tufted and incredibly soft, these charming characters are a favourite for all ages and bring a touch of the Andes to your home.
Carry a piece of culture with our curated collection of bags. From vibrant, licensed Indigenous-designed totes to durable fair trade backpacks and crossbody styles, our bags are crafted to blend functional design with meaningful storytelling.
Wrap yourself in the vibrant stories of our woven blankets. From the classic, intricate patterns of the Ecuadorian highlands to contemporary Canadian Indigenous designs, these durable and colourful pieces bring warmth and heritage into any home.
Quichua World Market respectfully acknowledges that we live and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg People. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather in this space and for the many privileges this land affords us.
This and other original art land acknowledgement plaques are available at the Art for Aid Shop
