Supporting Indigenous Art

From Otavalo to Ottawa

In 1994, Jacinto and Jill Anguaya began a small-scale import business to support their family and the community of Indigenous artisans in Otavalo, Ecuador. Their mandate was simple: handmade, unique, fair trade, and fairly priced. Thirty years later, Quichua World Market remains a cornerstone of the ByWard Market, still guided by those same original values.

Meet our world-famous alpaca plushies. Hand-tufted and incredibly soft, these charming characters are a favourite for all ages and bring a touch of the Andes to your home.

Quichua World Market respectfully acknowledges that we live and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg People. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather in this space and for the many privileges this land affords us.
